Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) is a server role in Active Directory that allows admins to manage and store information about resources from a network, as well as application data, in a distributed database. AD DS can also help admins manage a network's elements (computers and end users) and reorder them into a custom hierarchy.

Active Directory (AD) is a centralized control providing authentication and authorization for users and resources.

It is logical grouping of objects like users, group, files, printers, computers, etc, all these objects and resources are stored in the Organizational unit(OU) in a Domain.
Different domains forms a Tree, having a root domain and the rest as child domain. The different domains use Trust Relationship in order to communicate or access resources from other domain. Multiple trees makes a Forest.

      The uses of AD are:
      1. High security.
      2. Remote connection.
      3. Centralized storage.
      4. Easy search.
      5. Single sign on (SSO).
      6. Multiple password policies.
      7. Backup & Recovery.
